Learn to be a partner in prevention of underage drinking by joining other caring adults, parents, teens and community leaders for a presentation by Amy Bartoo of Idaho Drug Free Youth Feb. 25.

"i2i--Seeing Eye to Eye on the Issues" will be presented following a free dinner Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. at Orofino Junior High School.

Both adults and students will be able to enter drawings for a variety of prizes including a Wii Game System donated by Potlatch No. 1 Federal Credit Union, $100 in cash, $50 gift certificates to Glenwood IGA and Barney's Harvest Foods and 50 percent off fresh meat up to $200 at Hayes Food.

The three phase 'i2i' approach helps communities deal with tough issues that parents face when raising teens and teaches them how to create a safe, healthy and substance abuse free community.

In the first phase during the school day, Bartoo will work with OJHS students in both large and small groups. The large group work will help create a sense of commonality and unity. The small groups will help students look at their own reactions to stereotypes and become better acquainted with peers that they might not spend time with to develop a mutual sense of respect and tolerance for different view points.

The focus of the daytime workshop is to help students bond with their school and one another to reduce the drop out rates and risky behaviors due to the increased connectivity.

Students will be encouraged to attend the evening presentation and be invited to participate on a student panel for that part of the activity.

The focus of the evening presentation, which follows the dinner, is to help parents and caring adults understand what young people are truly facing in their world growing up in Orofino. It will also educate adults about the warning signs of drug and alcohol abuse and give them tools to become partners in prevention.

In the third phase, parents and caring adults will be provided with a parent resource kit; a virtual "How To Manual" that they have not had up to this point.

'i2i' is being presented through a partnership between Idaho Drug Free Youth, Orofino Police Department, Clearwater Substance Abuse Workgroup and Orofino Junior High School.
